A Study on the Preparation of extra-light Bismuth Subnitrate

Abstract
Optimum reaction factors for the preparation of extra-light bismuth Subnitrate by the hydrolysis of bismuth nitrate with Sodium hydroxide in the solution of glacial acetic acid were found as follow; Reaction temperature 33¢ª, Alkali concentration 20%, final pH of hydrolysis 4, pH of the washing water of precipitate 2.5 and drying temperature 65¡É.
Bulk density of the final product which was prepared under the conditions was less than 0.309 Particle size distribution, X-Ray diffraction pattern and electon microscopic shape were compared for products under various reaction conditions, and it was found that lighter the power more crystalline and thiner the crystal plate.
